The electric switch drive with an internal non-cutting closure of the SP type (hereinafter the electric drive) is designed for switching to a repeated short-term mode, locking and monitoring the position in continuous mode of centralized arrows with an undivided course of wits. The electric drive is designed both for installation on newly installed switches and as a replacement for electric switches in operation.

The electric drive ensures, at the extreme positions of the arrow, a tight fit of the pressed wit to the frame rail, prevents the arrow from locking with a gap between the pressed wit and the frame rail of 4 mm or more and removes another wit from the frame rail at a distance of at least 125 mm.

The electric drive is designed to operate in a moderately cold climate (UHL) at temperatures from minus 60 ° C to plus 55 ° C, relative humidity of no more than 100% at a temperature of plus 25 ° C.

The electric drive is installed on the headset of railway switches on the right or left side of the switch and is controlled from the electric centralization post. The electric drive is supplied in two versions: with an auto-switch based on cam switching elements or on the basis of sealed magnetically controlled contacts.

The electric drive has the following differences from the commercially available electric drive type SP-6M:
- the use of a housing with a sealed cable entry and inserts of rulers and gate made of antifriction self-lubricating material (AFM) that do not require lubrication during operation;
- it is possible to use both commercially available electric motors and intelligent type electric motors;
- the use of a sealed gearbox with metal-ceramic friction discs and liquid lubrication for the entire service life;
- the use of contact levers of the auto-switch with rollers made of antifriction self-lubricating material (AFM) that do not require lubrication during operation;
- the use of a silicone seal and plugs in the cover of the electric drive to ensure ventilation.

As a result of the above changes, the switch electric drive of the SP type has the following advantages:
- reduction of time spent on maintenance of the electric drive during operation;
- reduction of operating costs: the volume of adjustment and maintenance work;
- reduction of the life cycle cost of the electric drive;
- improving the reliability, durability and safety of trains.
